BANGALORE: For the students of the Bangalore Metropolitan Round Table 44 SSLC School in Roopena Agrahara, Friday will go down in history. Reason: They got the best surprise of their lifetimes.

The Round Tablers got together and brought cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Syed Kirmani for a surprise `meet the children'' programme organised at the school on Friday.

Round Tabler Nikhil Bagri said, ``The children have only been told that we are bringing a celebrity to meet them.
They were very excited about the whole thing and it has payed off.'' Ganguly distributed sweets and chocolates to all the children.

Ganguly and Kirmani spent close to an hour with the 600 odd students of this school. The students were given a pep talk by Ganguly about the value of education and that they must excel in their studies for a better future.

Two cricket bats and a cricket ball were autographed to be kept at the school for `good memories''.

The Round Tablers have asked the students to write about their experience of meeting Ganguly and plan to include it in the next issue of the Round Table Magazine to be released shortly.

The children who were previously asked to make `best wish'' cards for the Indian Cricket team also got an opportunity to give Ganguly some in person much to their excitement.

The Round Table School project which began in 1986 now has a full fledged facility functioning in the area. Giving free education to children of construction workers and poor families from the Roopena Agrahara village and the nearby Singasandra, NGR Layout, Viratnagar and Bomanahalli, the school also prepares a wholesome mid-day meal in the in-house kitchen everyday.

Bringing in eminent personalities to meet the students has been a regular practice by the Round Tablers. ``The main purpose behind it is to make the children feel that they can also meet stars seen only in the city,'' Bagri added.

The school functions on the Round Table Club''s `Feed a Child'' scheme whereby donors can lend financial help and the school organises a full meal for the children on a day to celebrate the contribution of the donor.
